The Pretty Reckless @ Wulfrun Hall Wolverhampton review

Leggy blondes were the order of the day as The Pretty Reckless invaded the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton. It has to be said, this was one really fun gig.

British five piece Francesqa brought a bit of masculinity to the evening, and in the tightest skinny jeans on the market, they seriously stoked the crowd for a lip smacking show.

Looking around the small venue was a surreal experience, as there amassed the most random collection of people imaginable for a rock show.

A bizarre mix of Taylor Momsem wannabes in torn tights and ghostly rags, emos, punks, fashionistas and men that really were far, far too old to be there legitimately.

Momsem and co. came on about 30 minutes with all the pomp and ceremony associated with a big rock show and you got the idea it was all part of the spectacle. A big build up as opposed to any kind of technical problems if you catch my drift.

Even though The Pretty Reckless are a band, it’s patent that all the focus is on Taylor Momsem and the others disappear into her waif like shadow.

Her outfit was as provocative as you’d expect, ripped stockings with suspenders, clear glass stilettos that were approx 10 inches high, an oversized shirt and a black bra as well as a s&m esque dog collar.

Whatever about the hype surrounding Momsem, whatever side of the fence you sit on in the love-her-loathe-her debates, it’s undeniable the girl can sing and she had the crowd in the palm of her skinny hands.

They opened up with Light Me Up from their debut album and played most of the earlier tracks with great energy and delivered what the fans wanted.

As well as this the band played a number of really great covers ranging from Rihanna to Audioslave which added some variety into what is usually a generic set list.

But the absolute highlight had to be an Oasis/Muse mix of Supersonic and Time Is Running Out that was just incredible.

The performance defied Momsem’s critics who see her as being no more than a spoilt brat teen actress and she proved herself an authentic grunge frontwoman.

They closed the night with biggest hit to date Make Me Wanna Die had everyone in attendance singing the chorus as if their lives depended on it.
