SBTRKT – The Shipping Forecast

The Hold beneath The Shipping Forecast on the final night of Sound City resembled an early ‘90s illegal rave as SBTRKT proved to be more than worth the hype.

The mysterious Kaonashi mask-wearing South Londoner had the bare-brick walls in the compact club dripping with sweat as the capacity crowd of 150 craned to catch a view of him.

Recent cut Wildfire, with much revered Swedish vocalist (and Gorillaz collaborator) Little Dragon has won plaudits across the board, following in the wake of his acclaimed re-mixing work.

Using keyboards, live drums, laptops and live vocals, the man in the mask turned in a tight, melodic 30-minute set prior to the arrival of headliner Jamie xx.

The imminent release of SBTRKT’s debut LP on the hip Young Turks label next month is highly anticipated, with recent EPs and tonight’s performance more than justifying the expectation.
