Seminal 00’s Boston straight edge hardcore band “Have Heart” will close out the Saturday. They join celebrated emo rockers “American Football” who close out the festival on Sunday and New York Hip Hop hero “Action Bronson” who opens things up on the more hip-hop orientated Friday.
The Outbreak set will be the only European performance by the Boston Band whose first reunion in 2019 was one of the fastest-selling hardcore reunions in history.
During there original run from 2002 to 2009 Have Heart released “The Things We Carry” and “Songs to Scream at the Sun” which have both been recognized as landmark releases for straight edge hardcore.
The bands focus on positivity and love and self-improvement set them apart from many other heavy bands.
Some of the other bands joining Have Heart on Saturday include veteran Ipswich emo rockers “Basement”, influential 90s metalcore “Poison the well” whose performance is another European exclusive and the bands first U.K shows since 2009, experimental rockers “Ceremony” and emotional hardcore greats “Touche Amore”.
Other bands not to miss on the Outbreak bill on the Sunday include Post Hardcore act “Thursday” who will be doing a special set made up of songs from their 2001 and 2003 albums “Full Collapse” and “War all the time” which were fundamental in shaping the way modern day emo and post hardcore sounds.
Outbreak’s line-up this year is a treat for emo and emo revival lovers with performances by “Joyce Manor”, “The Hotelier” and “Movements”.
Hardcore fans will also be delighted as the bill is packed to the brim with plenty of bands to go ape shit in the mosh pit too, with performances from “Harms Way”, Incendiary”, “Mindforce” and “Never Again”.
The festival which got its roots as a one-day DIY celebration of U.K hardcore in Sheffield back in 2011 has made sure that its rotos haven’t been forgotten by giving the U.K scene great representation on the bill. U.K bands performing include institutions such as “Higher Power” as well as a host of Glasgow “Northern Unrest” hype new- bloods “Despize”, “Nothing but Enemies” and “Demonstration of Power” whose set is sure to be carnage.
Outbreak Festival began in 2011 as a one of U.K hardcore all dayer at the long-gone Broomhall community centre in Sheffield. Since then, the festival has grown every year, growing from a one-day event of only domestic acts to having more international acts and expanding to three days and moving from Sheffield to Leeds and finally to Manchester where it has been held since 2022.
This year’s edition will take place at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre where it was previously held in 2022. It is believed that the venue was changed back from Depot Mayfield, where it was held last year due to fan criticism of the venue.
Last years festival also began to move away from just booking hardcore and emo bands by booking more Experimental Hip-Hop artists such as “Death Grips”, “Denzel Curry” and Earl Sweatshirt”, in a move that received criticism from some fans but brought in a new audience.
The Hip Hop will continue this year with “Action Bronson” and “JPEGMAFIA” on Friday which a separate ticket from the Saturday and Sunday which feature more traditional hardcore and emo acts.
The event will take place on the 28th to 29th of June at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester.
