Despicable Me Minions animated ride is opened at Universal Studios in California.

There was a gala for the opening of the ride last Friday, where many famous names walked down a yellow carpet in honour to the characters as they joined the queue to enjoy the ride.

The celebrities that joined the line up include Dana Gaier who voices Edith in the films. She also recorded some footage for the ride itself.

“It’s super weird to hear yourself on a ride.”

The Minions are loveable characters from the movie Despicable Me and have been called the Mickey Mouse figure of Universal pictures by members of the Universal team.

The ride from the outside resembles Gru’s home where he and his adopted daughters live in the movies, which will be exciting enough for fans.

When you enter the house, you move into the ‘Minion Recruitment and Training Centre’ where the experience begins.

There is an 18 minute long presentation before you enter the ride, which teaches you how to be a minion. Steve Carrell can also be heard while you wait for the ride.

‘Do you have what it takes to be a minion?’

After you enjoy the presentation, you are given ‘Minion Goggles’ (3D glasses) which will help you to enjoy the HD 3D adventure.

The team behind Despicable Me know how popular this film and the minions are and wanted to make the ride a reflection of the films. This is why co-director Pierre Coffin was involved in the creation of the ride.

“Everything that was done in Minion Mayhem was done with the same focus as making the movies,”

In keeping with other famous 3D animation rides, this one does not lack in the riders being sprayed with water and having mild wind blown in your face while your pod moves in sync with the images on the screen.

The 3D adventure is now open to the public in both Universal Studios California and Florida.
