Holidays are a highlight of the year. Picturing yourself sitting on a beach, soaking in the sun, or exploring a new city helps to while away the hours. With around 94.6 million visits abroad from the UK in 2024, it is safe to say that the UK is full of holiday lovers.

Being away is meant to be relaxing, but sometimes the planning and logistics side of it can cause more stress. Here are some tips to help you plan a relaxing holiday.

Keep plans flexible

Finding the right balance between scheduling and being spontaneous can be tricky. Too much of either can be stressful. Before you jet off, make a list of activities you would like to do without planning specific days. If you need to book tickets or timeslots, then make an exception and book them to avoid disappointment. Take each day as it comes and try to be as fluid as possible. Making room for spontaneity allows you to experience your destination in a new light.

Choose stress-free options

A lot of the planning process involves accommodation and meals. Whilst opting for self-catering and low-cost accommodation saves money, it can make things a bit more complicated. All-inclusive holidays are the way forward for ease and quality. You can be sure that you’ll have a
comfy place to sleep, delicious meals to eat and even have the chance to take part in a range of activities. Being sure that everything is taken care of allows you to relax and enjoy yourself.

Prioritise rest and wellbeing

Holidays are for rejuvenating so make sure you do a lot of relaxing. Some resorts have spas on-site, so this is the perfect opportunity to book a massage or sauna. If you are headed to a sunny climate, chilling out by the pool or on the beach allows you to reset and appreciate the warmth – just make sure you have a good book.

If you are planning an action-packed adventure, make sure you have some quiet days between activities. This will leave you feeling refreshed as you head home rather than more tired.

Focus on experiences over schedules

When you land in a new place, it can be tempting to go all in and try and cram in lots of sightseeing. Sightseeing is great, but doing too much can make your holiday stressful and full-on. Instead, pick a few meaningful activities and savour them fully. For example, you could book a
guided tour of a cathedral in the morning and follow up with lunch with a view and a wander around the city, popping into local shops.
However you decide to tailor your holiday to your tastes, make sure you enjoy every second of it by taking some of the stress away.
