A thunderous storm and ship wreck will transport you to a enchanted island to bear witness to a magical tale of treachery, revenge and love involving a magician, a pair of lovers, a large helping of the supernatural and a hilarious subplot involving a monster and a couple of fools.

Multi-award winning MATE Productions launch their 2017 outdoor tour of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest directed and produced by Artistic Director Gaynor La Rocca in partnership with the Shakespeare North Trust and in association with the RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company).

Supported by Arts Council England, the Granada Foundation and Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, with original live music by professional composers and musical directors Taran and Aimee Harris, breathtaking pyrotechnics by Holly Blue, spectacular design by Alice, Verity Smith and Jane Allen, choreography and movement direction by Beverley Edmonds and a talented ensemble of actors, dancers, singers and musicians; this year’s tempestuous offering promises to be another stunning hit and a magical treat for all the family!

The show will premiere in Prescot Woodland Theatre located in the enchanting gardens of the 15th century Prescot Parish Church on Saturday 10th of June and Sunday 11th June, and then tour parks and woodlands across Merseyside throughout June and July 2017, with a finale performance at The Dell at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The company has also engaged children from local primary and secondary schools through a Pop Up The Tempest theatre-in-education tour giving a fast paced and hilarious introduction to the plot, themes and characters of The Tempest, an Arts Awards project with year 9 pupils working with MATE Costume Designer Jane Allen and there will be a special schools matinee at Prescot Woodland Theatre on Friday 14th July.
