Last Tango, which is currently running at The Liverpool Empire starring Flavia Cacace and Vincent Simone, is a curious theatrical form as it is neither a play nor a musical it is full of mesmerising dances however still manages to tell the most beautiful love story of a couple from their first meeting until their poignant last tango via the medium of dance.
The show has fantastic live music with a troupe of dancers thrilling the whole audience. Set in an attic it focuses on Teddy Kempner playing an older Vincent reminiscing of his beautiful life together with his wife (Flavia). The show has occasional references of emotional and heart-rending touches of humour which was greatly appreciated by the audience.
Last Tango is directed by Oliver Award winning choreographer and director Karen Bruce. The solo singer is Matthew Gent.
Of course the whole evening showcases Vincent’s and Flavia’s best work and most beautiful dance moves. The Argentine Tango which is the couple signature dance is fast, intricate and precise and is a fitting finale to a wonderful night.
Other dances included the romantic and beautiful Rumba also the smooth and elegant Foxtrot and the fast and energetic Jive. The music accompanying the show included Magic Moments, Moondance and Save the Last Dance for Me which perfectly fitted the evening
Of course Vincent and Flavia are the main focus of attention however the whole cast received a rapturous standing ovation at the end of the evening from a very appreciative audience.
