Josh Gad has confirmed on Twitter, a video exists of the original The Book of Mormon Broadway cast performing the full musical.

Although now a house hold name, thanks to playing Olaf in Disney’s Frozen, Gad was best known for the role of Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon.

Its been rumoured amongst fans for years now, that every Broadway show is recorded with its original cast, and put into storage, seemingly to never be seen again.

With Hamilton now available for viewing on Disney+, fans of musicals are hoping to see more recording of performances to be released.

The Book of Mormon, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, best known as the masterminds behind South Park, isn’t quite as family friendly as Hamilton, but is sure to be a hit should any streaming sites pick it up.

Known for being hilariously satirical, with catchy songs, and a great cast, many fans have their fingers crossed this could be the next musical on the silver screen.

Since live Broadway productions have closed until 2021, fans are becoming more and more desperate for recordings of their favourite shows to surface.

Nothing will ever beat the magic of live performance, but a well filmed, legal recording of a production is certainly closer than the dim and shaky bootlegs musical theatre fans are used to.

It also fits the bill for the many musical theatre fans that would much prefer to see the stage show, than movie adaptions like that of Rent, Les Miserables, or most recently, Cats.

Gad let the news out online, tweeting “A lot of people are asking me and yes, there is a tape that exists somewhere of the original cast of #BookOfMormon – we shot it in the last few months I was there but I have never seen it.”, along with a gif from the musical.

If the cast themselves haven’t even seen it, its unlikely the public will anytime soon, but at least we know it exists.
