Glorious. That’s the word that sums up the latest Christmas show currently running at The Liverpool Royal Court. Scouse of the Rising Sun is as puntastic as the name suggests, as fast as a stealth fighter and as gloriously uproarious as Far East Island coup.
To pick a single cast member as the pick of the ensemble bunch would be doing the others a disservice. Suffice to say then that each is fantastic and that without each other, the sum of the whole would be so much poorer. Scene of the show, however, is definitely that led by Andrew Schofield … twice!
As a whole, the first half can only be described as being very funny. The second, however, is laugh-out-loud mayhem, with the quick witted penmanship of Kevin Fearon and the slick direction of the master that is Bob Easton truly shining. All of this and more is aided and abetted by the outstanding musicianship of Howard Gray and his fine band who also steal their own scene or two.
And lest we forget, the set is an absolute knockout as always, with the lights and a much improved sound system all combining to create a proper Christmas party atmosphere that goes off with an all embracing bang.
Fast, loud, innuendo infested and brilliantly performed, Scouse of the Rising Sun is an absolute hoot and a show that will be very, very hard to beat this Christmas time!!
