Leading Liverpool dance company Movema are striding on to a stage near you with their youth outreach project Unlock the Box, which is now bigger than ever with support from Children in Need.

Movema created Unlock the Box to provide an opportunity for young people, aged 18 or under, to participate in free dance sessions and develop confidence.

Classes are set to begin on Wednesday 23rd September, with youngsters learning exciting styles from around the world – African, Caribbean, Spanish, Brazilian, Bollywood and Chinese.

This year, the Unlock the Box project, supported by BBC Children in Need, has produced a series of showcase performances including Brouhaha International Carnival and a TV show for new independent station Bay TV Liverpool.

To reach as many young people as possible, Movema held a Youth Dance Battle at Africa Oyé, to discover talented young dancers across the region.

Unlock the Box project leader Paul Doyle said: “There’s a great atmosphere in our sessions and we want everyone who joins in to have fun whilst learning about different cultures from around the world.”

Take part in Movema’s free Unlock the Box sessions from September 23rd every Monday from 5pm-6pm at Action for Achievement, St. Georges Centre, L9 6AW in Fazakerley and every Wednesday from 4pm-5pm at St. John’s Play Project, Steble Street, L8 6QH in Dingle.

A meet greet and session with the team will be held at Action For Achievement on Monday 14th September, at 5pm and St John’s Play Project on Wednesday 15th September, at 4pm.

Movema was established in 2009 by four Liverpool based dancers to promote the benefits of world dance and engage a wider audience in the city with the benefits and culture of dance.

They have delivered a wide variety of workshops in schools, mental health wards and community centres as well as offering professional dance shows for events and training for young dancers.
