Calling all brainiacs, jocks, thespians and skater dudes! Get’cha Head in the Game and don’t forget to book your tickets for Disney High School Musical on Stage this weekend!

LHK Youth Theatre will present their all singing, all dancing stage spectacular – High School Musical – at The Epstein Theatre on Friday, 13th November and Saturday, 14th November.

High School Musical on Stage follows the antics of East High’s most popular student, basketball star and school hottie Troy Bolton as he meets the girl of his dreams in the school’s newest student; beautiful brainiac Gabriella Montez.

Bonding after discovering a secret passion for singing the pair begin to fall in love, however, when they both decide to audition for their school’s musical they turn the whole school upsidedown, breaking the unwritten social rules and sending shockwaves throughout their social cliques.

High School Musical is an infectious celebration with a story that says you don’t have to change to be accepted. The production features all of the chart topping songs from Disney’s hit movie including, We’re All In This Together, Stick to the Status Quo and The Start of Something New.

The talented cast of 37 ranges from age six to 17 and has been rehearsing hard for the show which has been directed by 18-year-old Connor Williams from Crosby. He explained: “We began workshops for the show in July and started rehearsals in August.”

It is Connor’s first experience of directing but he is very proud of his cast. The main characters, Troy and Gabriella, are played by Daniel Mooney and Darcey Burchall, both aged 16.

Connor has said: “They are a talented bunch indeed; what makes them so special as a cast is that they’re all talented in different ways. There are definitely some stars of the future in this production but I can bet if they all keep up the hard work ethic they have shown in rehearsals, they can be stars in any industry they want to be in.”

He says the show will appeal to all members of the family.

Connor revealed: “Audiences of all ages can look forward to being taken on a journey through East High. Children can be startled by the visual production and the juxtaposition of the characters whilst the adults can relive their high school days. Audiences should also understand that there are themes with strong meaning in the show: the idea of stereotypes; social demands and the journey of love. They can also look forward to the intense scenes, large ensemble musical numbers, dancing basketball players and even a bit of cake throwing!”

So don’t Stick to the Status Quo – Break Free and enjoy a night of fun at The Epstein Theatre this Friday and Saturday and marvel at the amazing talent of LHK’s young performers!
