The historic Joe H Makin building is set to leave Liverpool John Moore’s university after Uproar festival after thirty glorious years.

A space that has nurtured and inspired theatre-makers for over thirty years.

The Joe H Makin building has been the creative home of LJMU’s Drama department and has shaped the careers of countless artists and performers.

As the university prepares to say goodbye Uproar festival will celebrate its history and legacy.

“Uproar is more than just a farewell; It’s a celebration of creativity in all forms.”

This dynamic and vibrant festival will showcase a range of emerging artists who will be raising their voices at the heart of Liverpool’s creative scene.

The name of the festival ‘Uproar’ came from last year’s showcase where it was a silent protest after the announcement of the traditional drama course being scrapped at LJMU.

Ryan Middleton, Production Manager of Uproar said: “The reason we wanted to continue with uproar was to grow on the message of the arts are important and we are here, and we matter.”

He added: “But to also celebrate what was given to us in the shape of the Joe H, making theatre.”

Audiences are in for a treat of new plays, musicals and fresh adaptions with artists taking on raw social issues and relationships.

Within the festival there is something for everyone from the hardened theatre goer to the first timer, everyone is welcome to make an uproar.

The festival will have twenty shows alongside short productions in the Ljmu Fringe and events across five venues.

Majority of the shows are free and are taking place in the John Foster drama studio, Arts bar Hope Street and Baltic and the beloved Joe H Makin building.

Uproar is a creative arts festival will run from April 29th to May 9th.
