The Fab Four are back on our screens for a brand-new documentary about their infamous trip to America in 1964 produced by the iconic Martin Scorsese and the Beatles themselves.

Directed by David Tedeschi, with a little help from his friends of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison and Sean Ono Lennon.

Beatles 64 centres around the band first trip to New York City in February 1964 and their world-renowned performance on the Ed Sullivan show.

Opening with the hard hitting emotion surrounding the assassination of John F Kennedy in late 1963 and symbolises how the Beatles coming to America were a ray of hope for the American youth during a dark period.

Not only did the immense talent of The Beatles take America by storm but so did their scouse colloquial style of speaking and their unique sense of humour, which captivated the American Press.

The film shares personal stories of young teenagers who were had been infected with Beatlemania.

“It’s like the light came on” Joe Queenan, writer, describes when he heard she loved you for the first time with tears in his eyes.

“We didn’t even know where Liverpool was, I mean they could have been from Mars.”

The film gives snippets of the Fab 4 partying with likes of The Ronnetes and The Supremes which could be a film on its own.

My personal favourite story from the film is how Jack Douglas, music producer and his friend came to Liverpool in the 60s from New York wanting to be like the Beatles playing in the Cavern and being embraced by the Mersey Beat scene, which is a beautiful reminder of the significant cultural Liverpool has had all over the world.

But my favourite quote from the film which I want printed on a t-shirt said by none other than George Harrison is “Everybody in Liverpool thinks they’re a comedian.”

You can stream the film on Disney+ this festive season.
