McFly returned to Halifax for their second show in a week to a rapturous welcome that felt like the Beatles had arrived. 21 years into their career and they are still driving the crowds wild, and it looks like they are having lots of fun doing it – especially guitarist Tom Fletcher who spent most of the set airborne at one point or another.

They opened with Where Did all the Guitars Go? from last year’s album Power to Play album, and although they are best known as a pop rock band with obvious Green Day influences, it sounded like someone has been listening to a lot of 80’s metal which added a bit of edge to the sound.

With a perfect mix of old and new the energy in the venue was infectious, especially when it came to the classic hits such as Obviously and All About You that brought about some goose bump inducing singalongs.

A medley of Livin’ on a Prayer/YMCA/Radio Gaga and Twist and Shout raised the temperature even higher and was followed by a brilliant Happiness.

With their band camaraderie clear to see they laughed and joked with each other throughout the set, and at one point Harry identified Dougie’s replacement sat on his dads’ shoulders at the front of the crowd.

A brilliant 5 Colours in Her Hair closed another electrifying set from the McFly boys with them staying on stage to wave good night to the crowd whilst KISS’s God Gave Rock n’ Roll to You played over the PA – with Harry bringing his son on stage to give a wave.

The response from the crowd was as electric as the show had been and proved they would be welcome back in Halifax whenever they wanted.
