Hockey played a storming set at the 02 Academy last night to celebrate their return to Liverpool attracting a growing fan base thanks to great performances on the festival circuit at Glastonbury and Leeds.
With a burgeoning bag of dance hits mixed with rockin’ sing-along anthems like Song Away and Put The Game Down, they had the crowd eating out of their hands.
The band, who come from the lush and fertile musical soil of Portland, Oregon, have been touted as one of 2009’s big breakthrough act and hailed as the ‘next MGMT or LCD.’
Hockey have an aura of effortless cool akin to the Brooklyn electro powerhouses they are being compared to and the groove of their music elevates them above their peers.
Debut single Too Fake, from the album Mind Chaos, got the biggest cheer from the throng.
The set culminated with Put The Game Down, which saw Grubin career around the stage before adding extra percussion.
