Liverpool’s Frederiks is launching a new live music night bringing the sound and energy of New York’s disco heyday to Hope Street with Disco Affair.
Launching on Friday 25 September, Disco Affair puts a full five-piece band at the heart of the dancefloor, with live musicians and vocalist Sara Toshka working their way through the records that defined disco’s golden era.
Expect Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Quincy Jones and more; played live, loud and late into the night.
Speaking about the new night, Disco Affair vocalist Sara said: “We’re all really excited about our debut night at Fred’s, and the idea is a simple one: what’s better than disco? Live disco.
“There are so many incredible records from that era that were made by brilliant musicians and were always meant to be heard loud and danced to. Bringing those tracks alive with the full band reminds us that disco music was meant to be lived in!
“It’s not a tribute show and it’s definitely not one for sitting down and watching from a distance. We want it to feel like a proper Friday night out, with the energy of a live gig and tracks that everyone knows.”
The night begins at 6pm with Liverpool DJ John Dean, a long-standing fixture behind the decks at Fred’s and the man behind its weekly Hope Street Jazz programme. John will set the tone before Disco Affair take over at 9pm, with John returning to the decks between and after the live sets to keep things moving until the early hours.
The launch is the latest addition to Frederiks’ ever-growing music programme, with the Hope Street venue now hosting live music five nights a week alongside regular DJs and special events.
John Dean added: “Fred’s has built a reputation for putting musicians right amongst the crowd rather than separating the performance from the bar around it. Disco Affair takes the same approach but turns the tempo up for Friday night.
There’s no distant stage, with the band playing in the heart of Fred’s, the tables make way and the whole room becomes the dancefloor.”
