Liverpool’s nightclub Baa Bar has created a pathway for female DJ’s; dedicating a whole night a month with all three rooms showcased by the female residence.
Candyland was first established in November 2024, to showcases different genres of music from tech house, house, R&B and speed garage. They have selected nine female resident to play each month.
The event was started after Sam Mcminn, Baa Bar manager said: “There was a noticeable gap in the market for female DJ’s.”
Over the past couple of months, Baa Bar has been building their residence and has built a support group for upcoming talent in Liverpool. With their lineups packed with Liverpool’s hottest talent it has allowed DJs to grow experience, confidence, and support.
It has been estimated that one-in-ten of females make up the percentage of DJs, with half of those being producers.
Liverpool is known for its night scene with people coming from all parts of the UK. Baa Bar has been a significant club in Liverpool which first opened its doors in 1991.
Candyland has been a great success on ticket sales, with 4 out of 5 sell outs. Sam shared the reports from ticket sales on Fatsoma, on 1st of November 2024 the event managed to sell 855.
Sam Mcminn added: “It’s the most tickets we’ve ever sold for a Friday in the whole year” – the previous year they only sold 118.
Baa Bar has created a safe space to encourage women to feel empowered behind the decs. Not only for its residence but it has opened doors for artists to approach the club to help build their career.
