The new local TV station for Liverpool launches this week – promising a bold new approach to coverage of news, sport, business, entertainment and features.

The channel will burst onto the airwaves with the “Big Bay Launch” show starting at 5.30pm on Thursday 4th December.

Beamed from studios in Windsor Street, the honour of hosting the station’s debut goes to Jay Hynd and Ellie Phillips – presenters of its weekly music and entertainment show “The Guide”.

Bay TV Liverpool will be on air each day from 6am to 11pm, reaching more than 930,000 homes across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

Chief Executive Chris Johnson said: “We are committed to delivering a new dimension in television – a local station rooted Liverpool and one that is worthy of our great city and its people.

“Bay TV Liverpool will be distinctly different from anything that has ever been offered to TV viewers in the area, bringing viewers a great mix of news, current affairs and entertainment shows.

“This is a station that is deep-rooted in the region, and we aim to deliver programmes designed to reflect its rich culture, unique history, vital diversity and future promise.

“Our declared mission is to tell the Liverpool story every day and that is exactly what Bay TV aims to do.

“We will proudly celebrate the life and times of our region and its people, glad to celebrate their achievements and advances.

“But we will not shrink from covering difficult topics and, rightly holding elected representatives to account. We will not only inform and entertain but will sometimes seek to challenge our audience.

“Liverpool will not settle for second best. It deserves the very best local TV station in Britain and we we thrilled and honoured to take-on the task of fulfilling on high expectations.”

Chris Kerr, Bay TV’s Director of Programmes said: ”What makes our channel so special is that we will also offer the opportunity for everyone to engage with and to influence the nature of our programmes.

“Bay TV will focus on the people of the Liverpool city region. Many of our programmes are locally made, by and for local people.

“We really want people to get involved and to make contributions to our programmes.

“We welcome feed-back from viewers and encourage suggestions on what they want to see on their screens.”

To share the Bay TV Liverpool experience, viewers may need to re-tune their Freeview televisions.

It only takes a few minutes and when that is done, Bay TV Liverpool will appear at Channel 8 on the Electronic Programme Guide. Bay TV Liverpool will also be available on Virgin 159, but not yet on Sky TV.
Bay TV Director of Programmes, Chris Kerr: “Bay TV Liverpool is part of the local TV revolution – the new generation of stations that are being rolled-out all over Britain.

“We are determined that Liverpool will be in the forefront of that revolution. This region has enormous talent right across the board and our programmes will be a great showcase for that, at a truly local level.

“Our talented team of staff is already working hard to create an exciting mix of entertainment and news programmes. But we want viewers to be closely involved and we would be delighted to hear from anyone with ideas and suggestions about what they’d like to see on Bay TV Liverpool.”
