With life now involving the majority of us needing to wear face masks, its easy to understand why people want personalised masks, or ones that match their outfit.
From masks that are printed to look like the lower half of the wearers face, masks that are fully attached to fashionable body suits, and the many disturbing art masks that have popped up, you might think you’ve seen it all.
Think again, because an Israeli jewellery company is now working on the worlds most expensive face mask.
The gold, diamond encrusted mask will cost $1.5 million.
Created using 18 karat white gold, decorated with approximately 3,600 white and black diamonds, the outrageous price tag is definitely fitting for such a prestigious face covering.
The mask will also be fitted with top rated N99 filters, since it is about protection, and not just fashion.
Isaac Levy, who owns the Yvel company, and is also designing the mask, said the buyer had just two demands.
First, that it be finished by the end of the year. Second, that it be the most expensive in the world.
The buyer has not been identified, outside of being a Chinese businessman who lives in the United States.
Although the glamorous mask may turn a few heads, weighing in at 270 grams, its unlikely to be a comfortable piece for daily wear.
Levy took the time to show off several pieces of the mask, at his factory near Jerusalem, saying: “Money maybe doesn’t buy everything, but if it can buy a very expensive Covid-19 mask and the guy wants to wear it and walk around and get the attention, he should be happy with that.”
Someone being prepared to spend this much money on a mask, during a time when so many people are out of work, or otherwise suffering due to poverty, is sure to rub some people the wrong way, and the masks creator Levy even said he wouldn’t wear it himself.
He is thankful for the opportunity to make it though, and said: “I am happy this mask gave us enough work for our employees to be able to provide their jobs in very challenging times like these times right now.”
