A recent study into the power of music suggests that nine out of 10 people believe music has the power to evoke happy memories.
The study found that nearly three quarters of Brits claim that music is important to them and that of them a further 31% can re-live fond holiday memories on the cue of a particular track.
At a recent Royal Caribbean event to celebrate the power of music, music DJ Lauren Laverne recalls he fondest memory, listening to Crosby, Stills and Nash in Ibiza and feels Sylvia’s Y Viva Espana would reperesnt many Brits first holiday abroad.
The BBC DJ said: “Everybody talks about the power of art, but you don’t often stand in front of a painting and cry, but music has that power over us. It’s the closest thing we’ve got to magic.”
Music industry expert Stuart Maconie researched what exactly turns a song into an anthem by compiling a list of songs which have achieved anthemic status.
Maconie’s study rated U2’s Beautiful Day as the nation’s favourite feel good anthem, followed by the Beatles’ Hey Jude and Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem as Britain’s choice for there top three tracks.
