Too hot to trot Hip Hop duo Run The Jewels have come together with Marvel to create not one, but two eye-catching comic cover features.
Kill Mike and El-P and their cult-following hand symbol will grace the cover of Deadpool #45 – making a nice nod to the fact that the Merc With a Mouth has got his hands on the Infinity Gauntlet.
Also – Issue Two of Howard the Duck, with Rocket Racoon getting into his deep gangsta mode. Presumably Groot’s rapping skills are limited to a one off hook: “I am Groot… I am Hip Hop.”
The concept for the covers was inspired by Marvel EIC Axel Alonso, watching his 11-year-old son and friends making the hand gesture during a football game.
He said: “Seeing the way my 11-year-old son and his friends were improving off of this really vibrant, iconic image… It got me thinking.
“If you’ve got this movement around the world from Bangladesh to Taiwan, people are doing their interpretations of this symbol and I got these roughnecks doing it on the sideline of a football game, then maybe Marvel could weigh in on this and have some fun.”
El-P revealed that they didn’t know it was happening. He said: “We didn’t know.
“We just got told it was happening and we were like, ‘You can’t be serious, that’s not possible, how is that even possible?’ Then they showed us the covers. And it’s f**king crazy.”
