Katumba Drumming helped bring the Liverpool streets and stages alive last weekend with their wall of sound Katumba Bloco as part of the Brazilica Festival parade, and their new outfit KATUMBA DRUM’n’BRASS at the Pier Head Village Stage.

KATUMBA is Liverpool’s renowned drumming group, recently returned from performing at Brazil’s world famous Carnival celebrations, KATUMBA’s hypnotic blend of sound and dance is original, empowering, and truly unforgettable.

With over 80 trained drummers and dancers from all over the world, KATUMBA comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. Whether stage or parade, live performances range from a smaller energetic 8-piece to an 80-strong roaming carnival guaranteed to blow any crowd away!

KATUMBA’s vibrant mix of samba-reggae, maracalypso and Afro-Brazilian-inspired original compositions pushes the boundaries of genre, all topped off with stunning high impact choreography.

Their unique new live outfit, KATUMBA DRUM ‘N’ BRASS blends the raw power of brass, deep sub bass and electronic beats, resulting in a carnivalesque cacophony of styles such as hip hop, drum and bass, and heaps of funk.

Speaking about the new show, Juliana Landim Katumba’s Director said: “We wanted to create something that reflects our influences. I’m from Brazil, our Music Director Ritchie from Scotland, we’re based in Liverpool and have worked with music and movement all our lives. So, we bring all that to KATUMBA DRUM ‘N’ BRASS, and the result is something sounding like BasementJaxx meets Hackney Colliery Band – at a Brazilian Carnival! And of course with all the choreographed movement and lots of energy we always bring to our shows!
