Popular singer Halsey pays homage to her idols in new video.

You Should be Sad is one of several tracks released from upcoming album, Mania.

The video, directed by Colin Tilley includes scenes that mirror those from artists that influence Halsey.

Released at midnight on Friday 10th, the country-esque pop song channels heartbreak and pettiness towards an ex. Halsey said in a tweet: “I wrote YSBS on my living room floor on my guitar. Lots of time in Nashville too.”

Fans have pointed out and Halsey has confirmed that she has paid homage to Lady Gaga, Shania Twain and Christina Aguilera.

From wearing a platinum blonde wig to reference Gaga’s character in American Horror Story to a scene and outfit similar to that of Christina’s in her Dirrty video; the connections are obvious to fans of her influences.

The song prods insults at an ex, claiming that she was glad she never had a child with him because he “can’t love unless there’s something in it” for him. The jabs don’t stop there.

Manic, a self-proclaimed “angry album” by Halsey herself also includes released tracks Graveyard, finally // beautiful stranger, and Suga’s Interlude, featuring Suga of k-pop band BTS.

Halsey has a past of making incredible videos for songs, with fans being wowed by the video for Nightmare last year, which featured Blondie legend, Debbie Harry.

The album, released on January 17th is her third studio album, after Hopeless Fountain Kingdom which was released in 2017.

When asked about the songs included in Manic and their different tones, Halsey tweeted: “every song has its own identity! I’ve always said “the album changes its mind as often as I do.””

The 25-year-old singer is embarking on a World Tour after the release of the album, bringing her hits back to UK shores in March.
