Way back in 1950, Isaac Asimov predicted the existence of robots in his novel I, Robot. In 2004, Alex Proyas brought it to life, setting the scene with ‘Chicago 2035’ and Will Smith as the protagonist. The year is 2014 and robots have already been created.
Damon Albarn, frontman of Blur and Gorrilaz, was invited to sing latest track ‘Everyday Robots’ to an audience that had a couple of extra special guests.
Freakishly realistic, Otonaroid was a member of the audience, smiling away and blinking just like every other human, seemingly enjoying Albarn’s voice. She is an android. A human robot named Telenoid was also nodding away on the front row. The fact that they have names is bizarrely acceptable as we enter the foreseeable techno world.
Otonaroid is featured in the video that has gone viral since it was uploaded only twenty-one hours ago by The Creators Project. So far it has 16,035 views.
From the video, which you can watch here, it is clear that Damon Albarn is a fan of Japan and the Miraikan museum. He says: “It’s just so dedicated to the now and the future. [There’s an] artistic soul at the centre of the place. It’s a great museum.”
Evidently, Damon Albarn is fascinated by the nature of technology as his latest album – released April 25th of this year – involves the theme of the rebuilding of humans just like the designing of robots.
On the subject, he says “I love new technology. That’s why I love coming to Japan. As a musician, the first thing you do when you get here is go to a music shop and buy the latest gadget.” Tracks such as ‘Lonely Press Play’ and ‘Everyday Robots’ reflect his respect.
Everyday Robots is out now, and available on iTunes.
