We are really looking forward to the Lucky 13 tour in the UK this September. We are feeling pretty lucky to still be rollin’ after 13 years. We have a new video coming out – a short film called Run Away. It’s featured on a new EP Heaven Can Wait which drops September 4, 2012. The EP has re-records of some our favorite songs from our first record Menace to Sobriety, including Heaven is a Halfpipe.
So I’m packing my bag for this UK tour and I can only bring 10 CDs for the whole tour. This is the only music we can listen to the whole time. That being said, I’m gonna have to go with some classics. I love such a variety of music that it’s really hard for me to narrow it down. So for this scenario I’m going to pick records that are top to bottom good because some of my favorite all-time songs live on records that don’t qualify for this list.
1) The Clash
Combat Rock
“Ok, so I know you are saying if you were going to pick one Clash record it has to be London Calling, which lands on most 10 greatest-records-of-all-time lists but my introduction to The Clash as a little boy was Combat Rock so it’s the one I love the most. Obviously now, I have a great appreciation for London Calling but it doesn’t move me the same way.”
2) Bob Marley
Catch a Fire
“Picking one Bob record is tough too because it’s his lifetime body of work that is so amazing. Some days I select the Bob catalogue and play it on random. My first job in the music biz was at Island Records. Before that I would say I was a fan of Bob but working there I learned about his life and really began to study his music. Now I am a fanatic. He is truly one of the greatest ever and Catch a Fire is one of his greatest albums.”
3) Guns ‘n’ Roses
Appetite for Destruction
“Based on picking LPs, this is one of the greatest albums from top to bottom ever recorded. There isn’t a moment on this record that isn’t genius. It’s Hollywood gutter at it’s finest.”
4) The Police
Regatta de Blanc
“The Police are one of my biggest influences. I never get tired of Regatta; I have listened to this record 100,000 times and could listen 100,000 times more.”
5) N.W.A.
Straight Outta Compton
“This record is to hip-hop what Never Mind the Bollocks is to punk rock. Definitely an essential for any road trip.”
6) Iron Maiden
Piece of Mind
“Piece of Mind is a masterpiece, from the songwriting to the playing to the production to the artwork.”
7) The Beatles
White Album
“Again, most people would pick a few other Beatles records before the White Album but this is definitely my favourite. Plus, I feel like I’m getting some extra bang for my buck here because it’s a double LP.”
8) Beastie Boys
Paul’s Boutique
“This is one of my all-time favorite records. It’s been in my road trip catalogue since I got my driver’s license.”
9) Pink Floyd
The Wall
“This is great for winding down on drives after a show.”
10) Sublime
Sublime
“Again, going with top to bottom records this record is a 10. This record defines the So Cal lifestyle that we represent; It reminds me of home when I’m out on the road.”
