Former Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed and San Francisco Metal giants Metallica have teamed up for what could be this year’s most unusual collaboration album.
The project came about after Metallica spotted the Wild Side writer going in to their studio.
The album is untitled and has no release date as of yet, but consists of ten Lou Reed written tracks and the recording sessions wrapped up last week.
Reed spoke to Rolling Stone about the project saying, ‘A marriage made in heaven. I knew it from the first day we played together, ‘Oh, man, this is perfection, right in front of me.’
Metallica confirmed the album via their website stating;
‘In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we’re not exactly sure when you’ll hear it, we’re beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week.’
Reed is currently without a record label and Metallica are no longer on Warner Bros, so it is unclear what format the album will be released in.
