Sacramento psychedelics Ganglians have unveiled the first video from their highly awaited new LP Still Living online.
The clip for Jungle, starting out like seminal hip-hop movie Wild Style features graffiti artists spraying their tags before the appearance of the band busking in hilarious, vaguely sinister disguises that Hannibal from The A Team would have dismissed as being unconvincing.
Also featuring members of much-tipped psych rockers Mazes and Male Bonding, the trippy, day-glo backdrops avoid the usual imagery associated with psychedelic bands.
Recorded in London, the track is reminiscent of an escapee from the legendary ‘Nuggets’ compilation album of 1960s US underground bands.
Adding a modernist twist, the cut also evokes modern-psych practitioners The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Moon Duo.
Released in the UK on 29th August on hip label Souterrain Transmissions, the US quartet ring in the Bank Holiday Weekend with ‘Still Living’, their third long player.
The follow up to last year’s critically acclaimed ‘Monster Head Room’ LP, the disc has been helmed by Robby Moncrieff. Producer of The Dirty Projectors’ much admired ‘Bitte Orca’ album, his installation behind the recording desk has shaped the project into a cohesive whole.
Industry talk suggests the album is the band’s most straight-ahead effort to date and is highly likely to net them a larger audience.
Check the band out when they arrive on these shores later in the year.
