Thoughts – ‘Tuck’
With a debut single and two hometown gigs on the horizon, the future certainly looks promising for Brighton post-rockers, Thoughts.
Having recently jumped on the scene with debut track ‘Tuck’, Thoughts fuse a simple, yet contagious guitar riff with deadpan, enigmatic vocals.
Although seemly straightforward in complexity, do not let this fool you, Thoughts have managed to calculate a sound that is both and discretely authentic and sufficiently engaging.
‘Tuck’s’ funk inspired bass line almost seems to hesitate as it pauses each time, waiting to be accompanied by the stony vocals that appear to stylistically fall behind at the centre point of each line of verse.
Thoughts refrain from the standard procedure, self-indulgent guitar solo that too often taints the potential of contemporary rock music.
Instead they employ a nostalgia inducing style of screeching guitar accompanied by the familiar driving feel of post-punk mostly notably heard amongst the works or Pixies and Sonic Youth.
The track closes with a brief interval of dreamy guitar notation before unloading into a cataclysmic send off that fittingly highlights their unified potential.
Thoughts are set to release ‘Tuck’ on 7th March and will celebrate its arrival with two Brighton shows on 14th and 18th. Get the dates marked in your calendar.
