James entered the fray in the Birmingham Academy for a showcase of old school indie magic, leaving young pretenders Pigeon Detectives in their shadow.
Yorkshire men Pigeon Detectives tried their hardest to energise the crowd with some of their big hitters, and succeeded with tunes like Emergency and I’m Not Sorry to an extent.
But it was patent the crowd were simply waiting for the main attraction James to usher these imitators off the stage.
There was a nice mixture of the old and young at the gig, and James were sounding as cohesive as ever. Their sound was pure gold.
