After purchasing tickets months previous to the Foxygen’s gig, the excitement had been running through my veins like hot lava through a volcano. I arrived at The Kazimier very happy, until I realised I’d left my tickets at my flat. So a quick dash home was needed, however I was pleased to make it back in time to see the support act in the form of H.Hawkline.
Having already dabbled with a bit of H.Hawkline’s music earlier in the day I knew that I was in for a treat! And that was certainly the case, although there wasn’t that many in to see him and his bands set, those who where there seemed to deeply appreciate his sound and his songs.
He provided some nice interaction with the crowd- at one point inviting the whole audience back to the apartments where the band was staying for an election party. He also a song sang in his native Welsh language, something I’d never witnessed before but felt rather refreshed by him and his complete set, a breath of fresh Air.
After a short break it was time for the main event; it wasn’t long before Foxygen had graced The Kazimier Stage. With eight members of the Foxygen personnel, including 3 backing singers, they exploded into action like a bull to a red rag! Not a whisker short of all singing, all dancing and an almost theatrical explosion of musical delight. Singer Sam France seemed to have a surge of nuclear energy bursting out of his body as he leapt to and from the stage, singing within the crowd.
Not seen very often at gigs, Foxygen stopped half way through the show for a very short interval. Not surprising after the full on energy being produced by France and the three backing singers, who’s dancing was very well choreographed and displayed beautifully.
Swiftly back on stage and without losing any of their edge or energy they continued with what was once of the most exciting performances I’d ever seen in my life. They kicked back off with the delightful and melodic ‘Shruggie’ a song that gets continually played in my car all the time. Foxygen finished their set with complete style, before remerging for an encore to the pure delight of audience.
Without doubt one of the best live performances I’ve seen in many years – a 10/10 show from the amazing Foxygen.
