There’s always a danger that dropping the C-bomb constantly on your debut release could be construed as a publicity stunt, but Azealia Banks is more than just another rapper with shock value.

212 is bursting with the 20 year old’s exuberance and hypersexuality.

She raps solidly over an uptempo beat, questioning sexual and gender dynamics in very assured lyrics for a newcomer.

She addresses the audience’s girlfriend in the first verse, explaining that: ‘She know where I get mine from, and the season/Now she wanna lick my plum in the evening/And fit that ton-tongue d-deep in.’

The audience then comes under her scrutiny when she spits: ‘You’re gay to get discovered in my two-one-deuce/Cock-a-licking in the water by the blue bayou/Caught the warm goo in your doo-rag too, son?’

The track is sexually provocative and littered with her filthy lingo, but the New Yorker doesn’t rely on a few swear words to do the work for her.

The chorus of ‘I guess that cunt gettin’ eaten’ is purposely provocatve but even if the expletive was removed the track would still deserve the buzz it has created.

Banks proves herself a competent MC, but also showcases a nice singing voice too.

212 starts with a good solid beat before dropping in some electro that will make it hard for people to keep off the dance floor, even if they are screaming, ‘I’m a ruin you cunt’ at the top of their voices.
