It was announced this week that production has commenced on a new Star Wars show that will explore the period of time between the prequel and classic Star Wars trilogies.
Lucasfilm and Disney revealed the new animated series will be entitled Star Wars Rebels and will take place between Episodes III and IV of the films.
In a statement, studio bosses said Star Wars Rebels will take place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
Star Wars Rebels will have well-versed creative team behind it, with screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class) writing the pilot.
Greg Weisman, producer of animated shows like The Spectacular Spider-Man and Dave Filoni, supervising director of the Clone Wars series are executive producers on the show.
The announcement follows Disney’s purchasing of Lucasfilm last year.
The animated series will debut in autumn next year on the Disney Channel before moving to a regular spot on Disney XD.
