Reports have emerged linking AMC with a TV adaptation of Garth Ennis’ controversial comic book Preacher and with Seth Rogen lined up to take a lead role.
Looking to fill a Breaking Bad shaped hole, AMC are looking at Preacher, a story of a small town preacher who is inhabited by the Voice of God and tasked to track Him down after He abandons all creation, to make Him answer for His actions.
Joined by his ex girlfriend and assassin Cassidy, who is also a hundred year old Irish vampire, the two set off on a journey where they encounter, cannibals, a mentally retarded descendant of Christ as well as a man who fornicates with meat, to name but a few.
Kevin Smith and DJ Caruso have both tried to bring this tortured story to the big and small screen in the past, but all attempts have failed due to the tricky and blasphemous subject matter.
AMC believe they are the perfect company to make this project work, after already pushing the boundaries of TV viewing with shows like Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.
Seth Rogen is keen for the project to go ahead, heating up rumours by Tweeting about his interest.
He wrote: “Looks like about seven of years of hard work are about to pay off. I may get to bring one of my favourite stories ever to life.”
Followed by: “Arseface. John Wayne, The Saint of Killers”, all symbols and characters that appear in Preacher.
Other successful comic book adaptations like The Walking Dead belong to AMC. But, many feel the Sony owned TV studio are angling for Preacher to pick up the inevitable slack left after the studio announced a finale date to hit series Mad Men.
No official announcement has been made by the studio, and no one has offered their name to write or direct a pilot. But, many feel AMC will need to look towards their veteran writers to make the project succeed where others have failed.
