If you’re out on the road, feeling lonely and so cold, all you have to do is… head into a Luke’s pop-up coffee shop.
Netflix helped celebrate Gilmore Girls’ 16th birthday by giving out free coffee at shops around the country that were made to replicate Luke’s Diner. The show premiered in the US on October 5, 2000. Netflix also released a featurette combining series footage with reminiscences from the cast. Perfect to prepare you for the joyous revival coming in November.
At the “Luke’s” locations at New York and Chicago, long lines of people awaited for their coffee to kick off their days with a shot of Gilmore, sadly there was no I.V variant, the cups did however feature Gilmore Girls quotes like Lorelai’s “Nothing says coffee like six in the morning.” The queues reportedly began forming at 6:30am. The shops were displayed with Luke’s signs along with warnings from the diner owner himself warning customers on the use of mobile phone use.
Despite the Luke’s anti-cellphone attitude, the use of hashtags (#happybirthdaygilmore #gilmoregirls) was being encouraged.
Netflix’s 4-part revival of Gilmore Girls is set to premiere on the streaming service in November, each special will consist of a 90-minute movie named after each season of the year.
