The Simpsons are known for their parodies and tributes at the end of their intro theme, when they come together on their famous family couch.
Tributes include The Hobbit, Banksy, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
On Sunday, the show made a pastiche of one of the most famous and played games of all time, Minecraft.
The game is based around a character named Steve who must use the materials of the land around him in order to survive.
Players usually use this game in order to build intricate replicas of famous buildings or creating their own impressive buildings from scratch using blocks of dirt, grass, sand etc.
The intro to Sunday’s episode ‘Luca$’ stayed true to the game with the characters walking in a blocky manner as they walk through Springfield and end up in their living room.
Moe joins the Simpsons, fittingly appearing as a creeper from the game, before blowing up the living room and all of the characters in the room.
After seeing the tribute to his game, creator Markus Persson took to Twitter saying,
‘The Simpsons did a Minecraft couch gag. I’m not sure how I feel about it.’
Whether it was the bombard of replies that his tweet gained, tutting the developer for his ungratefulness that one of the most famous shows on TV paid tribute to his game or whether it was his own guilt, he soon redeemed himself by tweeting:
‘I STILL feel a bit like it’s just this small game I made at home. It’s so weird to have all these things happen. <3' Although the team behind The Simpsons didn't really do anything unique with the Minecraft style and it seemed to be simply a theme for a basic intro without any real joke, fans of the game seemed to enjoy it, although it did leave some older viewers asking, 'Haven't they already done a Lego one?'
