Angry fans of the hit animated series Family Guy have launched an online petition to revive one of its main characters.
On Sunday’s episode, the Griffin family’s pet dog Brian (voiced by creator Seth McFarlane) was killed off after being run over by a car.
The shock death has sparked outrage from die-hard fans of the show including Alabama resident Aaron Thompson who began the petition via change.org.
Thompson said: “Brian Griffin was an important part of our viewing experience. He added a witty and sophisticated element to the show.
“Family Guy and Fox Broadcasting will lose viewers if Brian Griffin is not brought back to the show.
“The writers of Family Guy didn’t just kill off one of their creations; they killed off the dog who has lived in our homes for the last 15 years.
“They killed the dog we all have come to love. They killed America’s dog!”
So far, the petition has garnered over 26, 000 signatures with other fans unhappy about the decision to replace him quickly with another dog in the form of rough canine Vinny (voiced by The Sopranos actor Tony Sirico).
However, speculation has suggested that Brian’s death is only short-term and that he could be brought back to life in the future.
