It was recently announced that classic 90s adult cartoon Beavis and Butt-Head will be returning to Comedy Central. It turns out that the classic cartoon revivals are not over.
Comedy Central has announced that it is bringing back the hit Nickelodeon animated series Run & Stimpy, for what it calls a “reimagined” run.
The Ren & Stimpy Show finished its run on Nickelodeon almost 25 years ago, the envelope was pushed quite far in terms of what a kids show could get away with.
The series was brought back in 2003 by Spike TV for their Adult Party Cartoon series, the reboot was shut down rapidly after just three episodes.
“We are excited to reinvent this iconic franchise with a new creative team and our partners at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio,” said Chris McCarthy, President of ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group.
“Ren & Stimpy joins our rapidly expanding roster of adult animation including South Park, Beavis and Butt-Head and Clone High as we continue to reimagine our treasure chest of beloved IP for new generations.”
“I want to thank our partners at Nick Animation as we re-imagine these iconic characters with a new creative team,” said Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and Chief Creative Officer for ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group.”
Alongside Beavis and Butt-Head and Ren & Stimpy reboot news, Comedy Central has also revealed the news that it is set to air a spin-off of Daria. The character of Jodie Landon will have her own show, titled Jodie, starring Tracee Ellis Ross in the titular role.
