The first trailer for the upcoming adaptation of F Scott Fitzgeralds ‘The Great Gatsby’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Toby Maguire, has been released.
First published in 1925, the novel continues to command a wide readership, with it being adapted for film a total of six times.
Directed by Baz Luhrmann, famed for his take on Romeo and Juliet, which also starring Leonardo Dicaprio, has truly captured the spirit of the 1920’s aesthetic, paying particular attention to costume and the infamous mansion in which Gatsby resides.
Luhrmann promises to create a faithful retelling of the much loved story, and the passionate preview of DiCaprio as the mysterious Gatsby attracting the attention of Mulligan, as effervescent Daisy Buchanan is heightened by the theatrical elements running throughout the trailer.
Set in 1922 in New York at the peak of the Roaring 20’s, Tobey Maguire takes control of the narrative as Nick Carraway, a man who becomes entranced by the life of his neighbour, the great Jay Gatsby.
The duo strike up a somewhat superficial friendship, and attempt to snare the affection of Gatsby’s ex-lover Daisy.
The film shot in Australia will be released on December 26, available in both 2D and 3D.
