Johnny Depp loses the pirate get-up to once again bring one of Hunter S Thompson’s alter egos to the big screen.

The Rum Diary was an early, semi-autobiographical Thompson novel, centering around journalist Paul Kemp as he moves from New York to Puerto Rico to work for the San Juan Star.

Aaron Eckhart, Amber Head, Giovanni Ribisi and Richard Jenkins star alongside Depp in the sun drenched, alcohol fuelled adaptation by writer/director Bruce Robinson.

The film has been in the works since 2009 but now has a November 4th release date, a short wait compared to the original novel, which was released thirty years after the Fear and Loathing author penned the book.

Check out the trailer and rejoice as good old Johnny ditches ridiculous costumes and layers of pale face paint to get old school down and dirty, method actor style.
