The Godmother of Punk is putting her considerable creative prowess to good use, teaming up with Tony Award winning screenwriter John Logan to adapt her own book, Just Kids.
The memoir chronicles much of Patti Smith’s life, but focuses on her relationship with photographer Robert Maplethorpe and their poverty stricken time together in Brooklyn and the East Village, back dropped against the burgeoning 70s art scene.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has always been acclaimed for her song writing but this will be her first foray into feature length film writing.
The script is still in the spec stages and will be shopped around to major studios at a later date. But if her writing is as good as her punk efforts it should have no difficulty finding a home.
The only thing left will be to cast the two leads. Please leave your suggestions in the comment box below.
