Shane Black, the screenwriter/director will not be given full reign over the upcoming Iron Man 3 script as many fans expected.
The wordsmith behind classics such as Lethal Weapon and The Long Kiss Goodnight, was handed the camera for the third installment in the Iron Man series, after Jon Favreau stepped aside after directing the previous two films.
It is believed that Disney felt Black’s previous works might lead towards a slightly more violent script, out of line with its family-friendly predecessors.
No Heroics writer Drew Pearce has been drafted in to co-write the script with the Last Action Hero man.
Black has stated that he wants to take the film away from the super-hero Vs. super-villain situation, and place it firmly in a more realistic setting:
‘The studio was not happy with the direction Iron Man 2 took. Iron Man 3 will not be another “two men in iron suits fighting each other” film. Instead, it will be more like a Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villians.’
Iron man 3 will reunite Black with Robert Downey Jnr after the pair worked together on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Iron Man 3 is set for release May 3rd 2013
