The teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action adaptation of Sleeping Beauty has been released as Angelina Jolie takes on the role of iconic villain Maleficent.

The preview begins with the classic Disney logo getting a dark makeover before switching to show the world of Sleeping Beauty.

We get a glimpse of the sorceress Maleficent as she lurks within some bushes before Elle Fanning’s heroic princess Aurora begins to narrate about the villain’s identity leading to this exchange.

“I know who you are; you’ve been watching over me my whole life. I know you’re there. Your shadow has been following me ever since I was small. Don’t be afraid.”

Maleficent then says “I’m not afraid,” to which Aurora replies, “Then come out.”

The ‘mistress of all evil’ delivers a chilling warning: “Then you’ll be afraid.”

During this, we see the princess as a child running around a field and a crow flying away from a castle and Maleficent marching past her army.

The iconic scene where Aurora goes to place her finger on the spinning needle ultimately sending her to the long sleep, we also get a glimpse of.

Jolie’s name is revealed before the additional clips show Maleficent’s creation of the giant thorn bush that will separate the kingdom.

The trailer concludes with the film title and credits before closing with the sound of Maleficent’s evil laugh.

The fantasy adventure features a strong support cast which includes Sharlto Copley, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and new Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi.

It will be released in cinemas on May 30th 2014.
