Casino movies are often the most thrilling because the storylines naturally involve risk. Whether it’s an elaborate heist or a masterful game of poker, there’s always the feeling that your favourite characters could lose it all.

There are plenty to choose from, so to save you being overwhelmed by options, we’re counting down our top 5 picks for the best casino movies of all time.

Check out the full list below:

5. Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

George Clooney leads a star-studded cast in this reboot of a 1960 film of the same name. Danny Ocean, a charismatic thief fresh out of prison, assembles a team of eleven con artists in an attempt to rob a trifecta of illustrious Las Vegas casinos.

It just so happens that the owner of the casinos is in a relationship with Ocean’s ex-wife. With the help of his team, Ocean comes up with a sophisticated plan to circumvent the vault’s near-impenetrable security, and collect a cool $163 million.

4. Casino Royale (2006)

The first Bond film to star Daniel Craig is also, arguably, one of the greatest outings of the legendary secret service agent.

After a daring chase with a bomb-maker in Madagascar, Bond discovers the link between a global terrorist group and its shady financier, Le Chiffre.

After learning that Le Chiffre plans to gamble with his clients’ money at a high-stakes poker tournament, Bond must beat him at his own game, thus destroying his enemy’s organisation and foiling his plans.

3. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

This comedic drama film, adapted from a novel by Hunter S. Thompson, follows Raoul Duke and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo, on their way to report on a motorcycle race. Armed with a suitcase full of drugs, the pair embarks on a wild psychoactive adventure in Las Vegas, inciting mayhem wherever they go.

2. Rounders (1998)

Starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, this film delves into the underground world of high-stakes poker. Mike McDermott (Damon) is a talented player, but quits to focus on law school after an embarrassing defeat.

But when his childhood friend Lester (Norton) needs to pay off a large debt, Mike is dragged back into the game, battling against shady criminals and Russian mobsters, in an attempt to pay back the money and save both of their lives.

1. Casino (1995)

Set in 1970s Las Vegas, young mobster Sam ‘Ace’ Rothstein (Robert De Niro) is tasked with overseeing the operations of the Tangiers Casino.

The gambling expert and his childhood friend (an enforcer, played by Joe Pesci) are initially very successful, doubling the mob’s take from their new Vegas venture. However, things begin to unravel, putting Sam in ever-growing danger.
