This past weekend, I watched Tammy; a 2014 film starring Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon. Being completely honest from the start I think I love most comedy films with Melissa McCarthy in them, so it’s no surprise that I found this film equally fabulous. McCarthy is just so funny and her comedic-timing and snappy one-liners are delivered perfectly.
The premise of the storyline is actually very simple. After some hardships in their lives Tammy and her grandmother Pearl go on a road-trip together, and chaos ensues from there
The film centres a lot around family and the idea of acceptance. Tammy and Pearl both have their problems, but you can tell that they still have a strong bond. The pair get themselves into a lot of trouble, but they always have each other’s back.
The ultimate goal of the film is for the two to get to Niagara Falls, but you’ll have to watch it to find out if they do! The most important thing is the journey; which takes place throughout an abundance of locations such as clubs, garden parties, motels and even prison.
Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon were excellent together throughout, bringing out the fun in every scene. Their characters balanced each other really well and I loved all their ridiculous conversations.
In short, I just found that the film had everything it needed to be a success – lots of comedy, a few action scenes and some romance thrown in for good measure!
I’d say it’s a film that both girls and guys can watch and enjoy as it offers a whole range of different humour and everyone is bound to find some scenes more funny than others.
I would definitely recommend watching this film, especially if you loved Bridesmaids or The Heat. It’s fun, it’s quirky and it’s just a real feel-good sort of movie.
