Zac Snyder’s hotly anticipated re-imagining of the Superman franchise doesn’t live up to expectations after teaser trailers punctuated our cinema-going for the past year.

The film presents a focus on Kal-El’s beginnings on his home planet Krypton in a lengthy exposition explaining the planet’s demise, but skips over his formative years growing up in Kansas. There is no development of Clark Kent (except a few shots of him doing a few odd jobs) which is essential in understanding Clark’s innocence and moral grounding.

There is no exploration of his early, tame crime-fighting days before the epic battles for the Earth with Zod commence, which makes for an all too violent an introduction for the gentle Clark Kent.

Calling him “Superman” is kept to a minimum, with only a hint of what he is to become known as and now, as Kal-El explains, the ‘S’ stands for hope on Krypton.

The biggest miss of all is the relationship between Lois and Clark which completely leaves out the mystery, spark and complexity of their relationship. As a viewer, you aren’t left routing for them..

Cavill is super casting as Kal-El but his performance is let down by the (shoddy) script which leaves huge character-based flaws and as a result, the mystery of Clark and Superman is ??

Snyder and Nolan have modified the story too much and the result is …Lois and Clark’s relationship….and Clark as a character

Man of Steel called to be viewed in IMAX 3D with all its over-the-top CGI, extended action scenes and larger than life….

Excessive in length and over/gratuitously violent … repetitive … for what many fans will have high hopes of, considering the names behind it and the trailers…was ultimately deflating.
