Baz Lurhmann seems to cast spectacular magic when it comes to making blockbuster films – with hits like Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet under his belt, he’s now turned his attention to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel The Great Gatsby, which is fast becoming the most-anticipated movie of the year.
An all-star cast will bring the life and times of flamboyant millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his neighbour Nick (Tobey Maguire) as they throw parties for the New York elite during the Roaring Twenties. Needless to say, scandal is sure to follow.
And with hip hop megastar Jay-Z doing the music, expect huge queues for tickets.
The flamboyance and excitement of the 1920s provides the perfect backdrop for Lurhmann to work his magic, and has captured the imagination of fashionistas, artists, musicians and tastemakers across the country.
