Robert De Niro has recently sparked rumours of a Taxi Driver sequel when he admitted to wondering where his character Travis Bickle would be now.
It’s been 35 years since De Niro first gave life to Travis Bickle, following his role in The Godfather: Part II.
But, the New York actor admits to still pondering over the possibility of a Taxi Driver sequel, “I’d like to see where Travis is today. There was something about the guy – all that rage and alienation, that’s what the city can do to you.”
Despite hopeful comments from De Niro himself and director Martin Scorsese over the years, fans have consistently been disappointed as rumours have been pushed aside time and time again.
Fans have pleaded with De Niro and Scorsese to leave the cult classic well alone, fearing the movie could be ruined if it’s explored anymore.
De Niro said: “I talked to Marty [Scorsese] and Paul [Schrader] and we did take a shot at something, whether it was an outline or a script, I forget. But somehow we didn’t feel it was right and it didn’t take off.”
