The thriller, starring Peter Pan actor, Jeremy Sumpter, is the first film to receive investment through the Welsh government’s new £30 million Media Investment Budget.
Take Down, directed by Jim Gillespie, who also directed the teen thriller I know what you did last summer, began its principle photography yesterday.
The film follows a group of spoiled teens who are sent to a school for troubled students. They take matters into their own hands when their campus is taken hostage.
The hostage thriller will be shot equally between Wales and Isle of Man.
To gain the investment the qualifying productions are required to shoot 50% of the principle photography in Wales. This is part of Wales’ aim to gain recognition on a commercial basis.
The cast consists of young, recognisable stars including Peter Pan’s Jeremy Sumpter, The Vampire Diaries’ Phoebe Tonkin and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick.
The investment is from the Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget which is available to UK qualifying film and high-end television production , through Pinewood Pictures, the UK studio’s film and TV investment vehicle.
Economy Minister, Edwina Hart said: “We want to see even more projects coming to Wales,” adding that the new fund is hoped to “help create growth and jobs in this industry”.
Pinewood Picture Director, Steve Christian commented: “Take Down is a significant milestone which will bring substantial economic benefits to Wales.”
