New pictures have surfaced of dilapidated Star Wars sets 37 years after they were used by George Lucas and are now the focus of an exhibition by Italian artist and film-maker Ra Di Martino.

Mos Eisley spaceport, described as a “wretched hive of scum and villainy”, where Jabba the Hutt lived has been partially preserved by the dry climate.

The film’s sets were used in 1977’s Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Di Martino initially initially spotted the ruined sets on Google Earth, later visiting the Chott el Djerid saltpan, Tunisia to see for herself.

Her exhibition, No More Stars, is currently at London’s Tate Modern and has already raised £7,600 towards restoring the sets.
