Woody Harrelson has officially been cast in the yet to be titled Star War spin-off about a young Han Solo.
Co-directors of the movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said they said they “couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range”.
Donald Glover, who also makes music under the stage name Childish Gambino, won a Golden Globe this past Sunday for his US TV show Atlanta. He is set to play the young Lando Calrissian opposite Alden Ehrenreich who is set to play Han Solo.
Emilia Clarke will also appear in the film, scheduled for release in 2018. The British actress is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones and also appeared in 2015’s Terminator: Genysys.
Game Of Thrones and Me Before You star Emilia Clarke is also set to star in the film which is scheduled for a 2018 release.
Harrelson, perhaps best known for playing barman Woody in the hit 90s sitcom Cheers, was more recently seen starring as Haymitch abernathy in four Hunger Games films.
Miller and Lord, also directors of The Lego Movie, said that Harrelson’s “ability to find both humour and pathos, often in the same role, [was] truly unique”.
The film-makers were tight-lipped regarding his role in the film, though they did reveal on the official Star Wars website that “he is also very good at ping pong”
Later this month, Harrelson, 55, plans to shoot a live movie that is set to be filmed in one single take in London, and broadcast directly to US cinema screens.
Harrison Ford portrayed Han Solo in the original Star Wars film trilogy, returning to reprise the role in 2015’s The Force Awakens.
Billy Dee Williams played Lando Calrissian in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back and 1983’s Return of the Jedi.
